A series of vehicular accidents occurred in Mandaue City and farflung towns of Alcoy. Sogod and Balamban in Cebu last Friday or All Souls’ Day.
In Mandaue City, a 39-year-old Korean is detained at the Mandaue City Police Office after her Sukuzi Swift Hatchback hit a motorcycle rider at M.C. Briones Street, Maguikay at 5:15 p.m
Seonmi Lee, a resident of Maria Luisa Subdivision in Cebu City, was headed to Banilad, when she hit a Honda motorcycle driven by Jessie Romeral Adalaon of Consolacion Cebu.
PO1 Jeffrey Alpas said both vehicles were travelling in the same direction.
Traffic enforcers Robert Magno and Fernando Sanoria, chased and arrested Lee who was turned over to the Traffic Management Unit.
When she was asked for her driver’s license, Lee only showed police her Korean driver’s license.
The badly injured Adalaon was taken to the Mandaue City Hospital but later transferred to Chong Hua Hospital.
Lee first denied hitting the victim, but she gave financial assistance to the victim’s wife yesterday.
Also in Mandaue City, 10 persons were injured in a vehicular accident at M. C. Briones street, barangay Tabok.
Bruce Pardillo, 32, of Lutopan, Toledo City was headed to northern Cebu on board a Suzuki vehicle with nine passengers when he swerved to the left toward a bank’s parking area and hit a Toyota pickup.
The pickup was driven by 44-year-old Victor Medina of of M.C. Briones Street, Mandaue City.
Pardillo and his passengers sustained minor injuries and were admitted to the Mandaue City Hospital.
In Balamban town, western Cebu, three men were injured when the multicab they rode overturned while heading towards the Transcentral Hi-way in barangay Prezna.
Segundo Eñego, 28, Nelson Daite, 24, and Junefer Marcellana, 21 suffered multiple injuries and were brought to the Balamban District Hospital. Their 32-year-old friend Jovan Acebedo drove the vehicle.
Police said they came from a drinking session in a friend’s house in barangay Cansamuroy last Thursday past 8 p.m.
The multi-cab was going downhill and approached a curve in the road when the driver lost control of the wheel.
Acebedo had no driver’s license and the multi-cab’s motor vehicle registration was expired.
The driver, who suffered slight injuries, was detained at the police precinct.
He was released the following day since no one filed a complaint against him.
In Alcoy town, southeast Cebu, a 9-year-old boy was critically wounded after he was hit by a motorcycle in barangay Atabay. The driver was identified as James Prayon.
Richard Antalan, a grade school pupil, suffered multiple injuries and was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Prayon was headed to Boljoon town and was unable to stop when the boy crossed the street.
He promised to pay for the boy’s medical expenses.
In barangay Damolog, Sogod town, northern Cebu, a 77-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a motorcycle.
Leonela Comendador Dimpas suffered head injuries and died after being brought to a Cebu City hospital.
The 48-year-old driver Ambrosio Mahilum surrendered to police.
He was later released after he agreed to pay for the victim’s burial expenses.
