Man shoots friend dead in Dumanjug cemetery

A 32-YEAR-OLD man shot dead his 37-year-old friend whom he thought poked fun at him inside a cemetery in Dumanjug town, southern Cebu.

Jembel Porponio of barangay Looc, Dumanjug was arrested shortly after shooting Richard Maquiputin at dawn on All Saints’  Day.

Police said the two friends came from a disco and decided to drop by the cemetery on their way home.

The two friends joined a group of friends who were in the cemetery to visit their dead.

Police said Porponio accidentally fell off the bench. Maquiputin helped him get up but Porponio got irked thinking that his friend made fun of him causing him to fall.

The two friends argued until Porponio drew a gun and shot Maquiputin thrice.

The victim, who suffered gunshot wounds in the body and left leg, was declared dead at the Barili District Hospital.

Insp. Robert Lucernas of Dumanjug police said policemen were deployed to secure the cemetery but failed to detect that an armed man managed to enter the cemetery./Correspondent Joy Cherry S. Quito
