PCCL Southern Island C’ships set Nov. 13-15

THE reigning Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) champions, San Sebastian Stags, will be taking a trip down south to play against the National University Bulldogs when the league touches down in Cebu for the Southern Island Championships on Nov. 13 to 15 at the Cebu Coliseum.

The Stags are aiming to end the year right after their bid for an NCAA title was derailed by the Letran Knights in their semifinal showdown.

The Bulldogs on the other hand, are gunning for another crown after winning the championship in the 17th Sandugo-University Games last weekend in Bacolod City.

Interestingly, this match-up will feature the Most Valuable Players of the country’s most prestigious collegiate leagues, the NCAA and the UAAP.

Center, Ian Sangalang of the Stags will be on display after he was named as the NCAA’s MVP. NU’s star wingman, Bobby Ray Parks will also get to strut his wares before the Cebuano basketball fans as he shows why he was named as the UAAP MVP for two years running. Their game will be on November 14.

Two more Manila squads are set to do battle here in Cebu but have yet to be determined.

The winner of the game between the South Luzon-Bicol champions and the North-Central Luzon will be taking on the winner of the match between the La Salle Green Archers and the Perpetual Help Altas. The aforementioned match is scheduled on November 15.

The Southern Island Championship will be disputed by reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) champions Southwestern University, and an opponent that will be determined in the course of the three-day tournament. The champion will get to be seeded in the Final Four alongside UAAP champions, Ateneo; NCAA champions, San Beda and the Luzon-Metro Manila regional  champions.  /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
