Cops must declare if they have relatives running in 2013 polls

Manila policemen who have relatives running in the May 2013 elections are required to inform their immediate superiors, according to a memo obtained by the Inquirer.

Manila Police District director Chief Supt. Alex Gutierrez said his directive was meant to preempt any case of police officers showing bias toward or eliciting favors on behalf of certain candidates.

The order also called on station commanders to determine if their subordinates who have relatives in the 2013 polls need to be transferred.

Such movements need an approval from the Commission on Elections which has jurisdiction over the reshuffle of police personnel during an election period, Gutierrez said. Nancy Carvajal
