MANILA, Philippines—One of the coaches of the Metro Rail Transit caught fire on Saturday afternoon in Quezon City, causing a stampede that injured at least two passengers.
City fire marshal Superintendent Bobby Baruelo said two firetrucks responded to contain the fire that started from under Train No. 009 as it made a stop on the southbound track at Kamuning Station around 4 p.m.
The fire, which was declared out after 30 minutes, was due to a “minor engine trouble,” Baruelo said.
Susana Perater, 27, and Jerome Hidalgo, 30, were treated at the East Avenue Medical Center for abrasions suffered in the crush of passengers rushing out of the train. Julie M. Aurelio, Inquirer
