Migreno TKOs Wongjongkam

FILIPINO Rey Migreno took Thailand by surprise, stopping local hero and former WBC flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wongjongkam in the third round of a scheduled 12-rounder for the WBC International flyweight title in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Pongsaklek, once rated the best pound-for-pound flyweight in the world, went down following a right hook from Migreno in the third stanza, but stood up to beat the referee’s count.

The Filipino journeyman, however, sensed victory was within reach and followed up with a series of punches on Wongjongkam. The Thai boxing legend again went down after receiving a series of hard blows, prompting the referee to immediately stop the bout, awarding Migreno with a technical knockout victory.

According to the world-renowed boxrec.com, Migreno has a win-loss-draw record of 18-20-3 with 16 KOs but went into the Pongsaklek battle after a two-bout winning spree.

He had previously lost to newly crowned WBO bantam champion Pongluang Sor Singyu, and to ALA fighter Arthur Villanueva in March this year.

With the loss, Pongsaklek’s win-loss record dipped to a still very respectable 87-5-2, 46 KOs.
