Familiarity of the terrain is half the battle won.
This was proven true by the junior golfers of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club who won six of the 12 titles at stake in the Alta Vista Junior Golf Challenge which ended yesterday with the host club claiming the Perpetual Cup after it was adjudged as Club of the Year.
Alta Vista gets to display the cup until next year’s edition of the annual golfest after its players accumulated a total of 131 points.
Alta Vista’s bets ruled the special division, girls class A, boys class B, girls class D and girls class E as well as the team competition.
Aside from that, Alta Vista’s Aris Mata also earned the overall title after scoring the lowest gross at 152 points in the three-day event.
The special division title was won by Alta Vista’s Gus Mata who finished with a total of 233 points. Del Monte’s Jethro finished second with 269 while Mactan Golf’s Luigi Coloyan was third with 273.
NAGAI SHINES
Cebu Country Club’s (CCC) Gen Nagai struggled with a 77 yesterday but still claimed the boys class A crown over Aris Mata of Alta Vista, 230-231. Alta Vista’s David Park finished third.
The girls title was won by Ericka Lim who led from start to finish and totaled 233 points. Del Monte’s Apple Fudolin placed second while TJGL’s Chanelle Avaricio was third.
Alta Vista’s Weiwei Gao claimed the class B title while Del Monte’s Marlon Santiago and Nico Canlas salvaged second and third places, respectively.
The girls title went to CCC’s LK Go who recovered on day 3 with 77 points. She won by just a point with 236 over TJGL’s Samantha Martirez. Del Monte’s Pamela Mariano settled for third.
Del Monte’s Jets Sajulga claimed the boys class C title with 152 points followed by TJGL’s Aidric Jose Chan and Weiyu Gao while teammate Sofia Chabon won the girls title besting Alta Vista’s Junia Gabasa and TJGL’s Jona Magcalayo.
Boys class D was won by TJGL’s Josh Jorge followed Kevin Park of Alta Vista and TJGL’s Jolo Magcalayo while the girl’s title was notched by Weifang Gao of Alta Vista with Maria Rafaela Singson of APO in second.
CCC’s Tatsuyoshi Ochiai topped the boys class D beating TJGL’s Marc Gareth Nolasco and Davao’s Zeus Sara while the girl’s title went to Alta Vista’s Anica Alfonso followed by Iloilo Golf’s Maria Pilar Isabel Aguirre and TJGL’s Sophia Magbitang.
In the team competition, Alta Vista reigned supreme with 625 points over Del Monte and TJGL.
