5 suspected robbers killed in shootout with QC cops

MANILA, Philippines—Five suspected robbers, one female, were killed in a shootout with police in Quezon City Tuesday evening, police said Wednesday.

Police Officer 2 Julius Cesar Parahas of Quezon City Police District station 5 said the unidentified suspects engaged authorities in a firefight along Fairlane Street in Barangay (village) East Fairview in Quezon City around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Parahas said authorities deployed for the observance of All Saints’ Day were patrolling in the area when they saw one of the suspects with a gun tucked to his waist.

“The officers called the attention of the suspects, but they opened fire at the cops, initiating a shootout,” he said.

Radio reports said three died on the spot while the other two died in the hospital.

Two people complained of having been robbed by the suspects, Parahas said.

He said that the stolen items—two laptops, two cellphones and undetermined amount of cash—were all recovered from the robbers.

Also recovered were a calibre .38 revolver and three grenades, he said.
