At least 18 storm dead in New York—Bloomberg

NEW YORK—At least 18 people were killed when superstorm Sandy hit New York City, mayor Michael Bloomberg said Tuesday.

A number of bodies have been found in seafront districts hit by the storm on Monday night, causing widespread flooding and more than 20 major blazes.

Officials said the city’s death toll could mount as a major search and rescue operation was still underway.
