The Boy Scouts of the Philippines, which holds office in Ermita, Manila, was established on Oct. 31, 1936, by then President Manuel L. Quezon through Commonwealth Act No. 111. Introduced in the country by the Americans as early as 1910, it was tasked to promote “the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in Scout craft and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance and kindred virtues.” Currently, there are about two million Boy Scouts in the country.—Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
