Woman stabbed dead, elderly aunt injured by maid in robbery

MANILA, Philippines — A woman died and her aunt was confined in a hospital after their maid stabbed them several times and ran away with their belongings on Tuesday in Mandaluyong City.

Sonia Viray, 52, was declared dead while her aunt Milagros Viray, 81, was still being treated at the Victor R. Potenciano Medical Center, as of Tuesday, Senior Police Officer 2 Disilito Custodio of the Madaluyong station said.

Milagros identified the assailant as Ohla, their former maid whose full name is either Oranesa Bogcalao Meraño or Oranesa Valmorcio Bogcalao, Custodio said in a report.

Initial investigation showed that Sonia was stabbed in different parts of her body after she caught Ohla stealing some of their stuff at around 1:20 a.m. in their house in Barangay Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.

Milagros, who heard the noise, went out of her room and saw the attack. She tried to run away but Ohla stopped her and stabbed her several times, the report added.

The assailant escaped with the victims’ valuables and belongings, which were not specified in the police report..

Relatives, who were living with the victims, found them lying in a pool of blood at around 4 a.m. and immediately brought them to the hospital.

Sonia was declared dead on arrival. Her body lies at the St. Peter’s Chapel on Boni Avenue.

Police said they have been trying to locate Ohla, who might be heading to Calabanga, Camarines Sur, her hometown.
