NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corp. in Mactan Economic Zone 2, barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City has maintained its partnership with the joint Balik Baterya project of the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and Motolite since 2009.
Last Sept. 28, 2012, the company disposed its 31 used lead-acid batteries (Ulab) worth P18,365 to Motolite for proper recycling.
The NKC also turned over to Motolite its 90 Ulab batteries worth P28,396 on June 19, 2009 and 125 Ulab batteries amounting P13,464 on June 23, 2011.
Motolite paid for the equivalent scrap value of all the used batteries, which is P60,225. NKC donated the proceeds to the PBSP.
Engr. Edmond Dantes Ouano, NKC Environment, Health and Safety Committee officer, said NKC and PBSP agreed to use P45,000 of the proceeds for the establishment of a Learning Resource Center and Candagsao Elementary School in Sta. Rosa Island, Lapu-Lapu City.
Ouano said the rest of the amount will be used for the purchase of tables, books and chairs, which will be turned over to the beneficiary school this coming December, and the training of teachers to enhance their teaching skills.
Candagsao Elementary School is also one of the beneficiaries of NKC’s annual corporate social responsibility projects, involving the donation of scrap woods for the school’s classroom tables, chairs and multi-purpose hall.
