Rainy weather ahead for Cebu this week

RESIDENTS and visitors of Cebu can expect a rainy week ahead as an inter-tropical convergence zone (ITCZ) hits the province, the state weather agency Pagasa said yesterday.

“The ITCZ and the low pressure area converged in Cebu which brings in the continuous rain,” Pag-asa Mactan weather observer Boy Artiaga said.

He said the rain is expected to continue in Metro Cebu until Wednesday.

Residents in mountain and low-lying areas were warned on floods and landslides.

Artiaga said the warning applies especially to those living in limestone type soil which is vulnerable to runoff water from rains.

Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms bringing widespread rains over Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao.

The rain-showers can trigger flashfloods and landslides, Pag-asa said. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening.

Light to moderate winds will prevail with slight to moderate coastal waters will be experience by the whole country. Reporter Candeze R. Mongaya
