4 Cebu buses suspended after crash
CEBU CITY—Land transport authorities have suspended the operations of four buses of Jegan’s Bus Liner after one of the company’s vehicles crashed in Toledo City, resulting in the deaths of seven people and injuries to 43 others.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board issued the 30-day suspension pending completion of an investigation. It did not cover seven other buses in anticipation of the expected demand for transportation on All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, said the agency’s regional director, Ahmed Cuizon.
On Saturday night, a Jegan bus rammed into a concrete fence in Barangay Lutopan in Toledo, 46 kilometers from this city, killing six passengers on the spot. The seventh fatality died at Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
The injured were brought to Carmen Copper Hospital and Toledo City Hospital.
Cuizon said the agency did not see any evidence of brake malfunction, but added that several inspections had yet to be made before a conclusion is made. Carmel Loise Matus, Inquirer Visayas
