MANILA, Philippines – A billboard advertisement that greeted Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista on his birthday made it into an online list of weirdest political ads by an internet publication.
io9.com, a daily publication that covers science, science fiction, and the future, published its list of “The 8 Weirdest Real-Life Science Fiction Political Ads” last October 15, 2012.
Some of the items that made it into the list were video advertisements from United States politicians that showed them holding a lightsaber from the movie Star Wars or showing a rival politician engaged in some dark sacrificial ritual.
One item showed a politician campaigning in a “Space Marine” costume from the sci-fi computer game “Starcraft.”
The Happy Birthday greeting for QC Mayor Herbert Bautista was the only item that was not from the United States.
The billboard showed a superimposed Bautista’s head, and the heads of the members of the QC Council, on members of the comic book superhero group “The Avengers,” with Bautista as Superman.
“Earlier this year, Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista received this weird, copyright-be-damned billboard birthday card from his city council allies,” the caption on the website read.
The councilors in the billboard are Precious Hipolito Castelo, Alfred Vargas, Candy Medina, Aly Medalla, Roderick Paulate, and Godie Liban. Also in the billboard were Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte, and Representative Winnie Castelo.
