Obama cancels two campaign events due to hurricane
WASHINGTON – US President Barack Obama has canceled two campaign events early next week to monitor developments related to Hurricane Sandy and its expected landfall in the eastern United States, the White House announced late Saturday.
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said that on Monday, following a campaign event in Youngstown, Ohio, the president will return to the White House to continue to monitor Hurricane Sandy.
“As a result, the events in Northern Virginia on Monday and in Colorado Springs on Tuesday have been canceled,” the statement said.
It added that additional changes to Tuesday’s schedule may be announced.
According to Carney, Obama is being regularly updated on the storm and ongoing preparations, and he has directed his team to continue to bring all available resources to bear as state and local authorities continue to prepare for the hurricane’s arrival.
