MANILA, Philippines—A Philippine National Railway train carrying 128 passengers was derailed in Quezon province a little past midnight Friday after heavy rains soften the trails’ embankment, leaving several people injured.
In its twitter account, PNR said three coaches of a five-car train set T6II bound for Bicol was derailed in Barangay (village) Ilaw, Sariaya, Quezon at 12:15 a.m.

“All passengers are safe and are awaiting buses to bring them to Lucena station where a train will bring them to Bicol,” it said, adding that PNR personnel were at the area to look into the incident.

It said earlier inspections of the track “failed to detect” the softening of the embankment caused by heavy rains spawned by tropical storm Ofel.
