All systems go for 8th Alta Vista Junior Golf
YOUNG golfers from all over the country will gather at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club (AVGCC) next week for the 8th Alta Vista Junior Golf Challenge from Oct. 29 to 31.
Two of the products of this annual tournament for junior golfers hosted by the AVGCC are now playing for their school’s varsity golf teams in the United States.
Last year’s Class A champion Gio Gandionco is now playing for Santa Clara University in California while Irina Gabasa, an awardee of the Sportwriters Association of Cebu, is now playing for Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee.
The tournament is open to boys and girls who have not reached their 22nd birthday on Oct. 29, 2012 with the cut-off date in all divisions set on the last day of the tournament.
This three-day tournament will feature an individual and team competition.
There will be six age-groups—Special Division (18-21), Class A (15-17), B (13-14), C (11-12), D (9-10), and E (6-8).
Article continues after this advertisementThe individual competition will be a stroke play with three days of 18 holes for classes A, B and the special division; two days of 18 holes for C and D; and two days of nine holes for class E.
Article continues after this advertisementThe team competition, on the other hand, can be a mix of boys and girls with a total of four players per team.
Those playing individually can also join the team competition. Their individual scores will be the basis for their team scores.
For players belonging to class A and B, their day 2 and day 3 scores will be counted.
PERPETUAL CUP
The perpetual cup, a large size trophy, will be given to the club adjudged as the Club of the Year.
To be named as the Club of the Year, a club must accumulate the highest number of ranking points. These ranking points will come from players, who for each day of the competition, will be ranked accordingly and awarded corresponding points under each class.
The winning club will get to keep and display the perpetual trophy for one year, until it is brought back to AVGCC in next year’s edition of the tournament. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
