Resto supervisor faces raps for stealing P128T income
An assistant supervisor of a restaurant was arrested last Sunday evening for allegedly stealing the establishment’s proceeds worth a combined P128,000.
Jenelyn Hermosa, a 22-year-old asst supervisor of Chikaan restaurant in Parkmall, Reclamation Area, Mandaue City, managed to escape detection by turning off the restaurant’s closed circuit TV.
Hermosa faces charges of qualified theft before the Mandaue City Prosecutors Office said Insp. Ramil Morpos, deputy chief of the Mandaue City police’s Investigation and Detection Management Branch (IDMB).
Morpos said Hermosa first stole P83,000 from the restaurant last April 27.
For the second robbery, the suspect returned from a jeepney trip with some other employees to Cebu City last Saturday evening.
Hermosa left her co-workers and returned to the restaurant, wearing a black garbage bag to escape detection and turn off the closed circuit camera TV.
Morpos said Hermosa used the keys she took from the drawer to open the back door.
He said the suspect used a stainless steel ruler to get P45,000 inside an envelope. It took her 30 minutes to get the money.
Morpos said the vault resembled a drop box where the cashier drops an envelope filled with the day’s cash proceeds for the owner to pick up later.
The owner asked a security agency to conduct a background check of Hermosa.
Senior Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes, IDMB chief, said the owner discovered the theft at 9 p.m last Sunday.
Bastes said Hermosa allegedly used P21,000 out of the P45,000 to pay a debt to a lending firm while she spent P7,000 to buy milk and food for her family.
Police said the suspect was arrested in a follow up operation and they recovered P17,000 out of the P45,000 stolen cash.
Bastes said the suspect admitted to police that she stole the money because her live-in partner isn’t employed and she couldn’t make both ends meet.
