The reigning champions Ateneo Blue Eagles grabbed their second win in as many games after defeating the Holy Cross of Davao City, 94-67, in the men’s basketball tournament of the Sandugo-University Games at the Tay Tung High School in Bacolod City.
The Blue Eagles were once again made to work for the win as they saw their 19-point lead nearly evaporate in the face of a strong comeback by Holy Cross.
Ateneo led, 43-24, and were up 46-29 at halftime when the Davaoenos went on a three-point shooting spree that got them within four, 50-54. But Kiefer Ravena and the rest of the Blue Eagles recovered with Juami Tiongson’s three-pointer giving them a 71-56 lead at the end of the third canto.
In other games, Cebuano team University of San Jose-Recoletos defeated the College of San Agustin-Bacolod, 66-55, and the University of the East Red Warriors continued their rampage as they won over the University of San Agustin, 101-79.
In games that were held late Monday night, the National University Bulldogs beat the University of Immaculate Conception, 99-56, while UAAP runners-up University of Santo Tomas trounced the Ateneo de Davao, 101-79.
The reigning Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) champions Southwestern University Cobras return to action today with two games. They first battle Naga College at 8 a.m. before finishing the day with a game against Xavier University at 5 p.m.
They hurdled their first challenge last Monday when they defeated the West Negros Univesity, 82-64.
