Store owner shot dead, 2 hurt in Manila

MANILA, Philippines—A man was killed while two others were severely injured in a shooting in Santa Ana, Manila, early Tuesday.

Twenty-five-year-old Froilan Maglalang was declared dead on arrival at the Rizal Medical Center in Pasig City after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds in the head and in other parts of his body.

Maglalang was having a drinking session with Ferdie de Castro inside the latter’s store along Pedro Gil Street when two unidentified men riding a motorcycle alighted from their vehicle and pretended to be store customers. Both then sneaked through an opening to get inside the store and fired successive shots at Maglalang and De Castro.

Loren Valenzuela, a barber who lives near the area, tried to help the victims but one of the gunmen shot him in the abdomen and quickly escaped the crime scene.

The wounded victims were brought by neighbors to Santa Ana Hospital but because of his serious injuries, Maglalang was transferred to a Pasig City hospital, where he died. De Castro and Valenzuela were also taken to Medical City where they are being treated.

A witness told the police that a few days before, De Castro had a heated argument with a pregnant customer of his store that led to a physical confrontation. Police said they would look into this incident.

Police investigators recovered two slugs of a .45-cal. pistol from the crime scene.
