Civilian anti-crime volunteer killed

A civilian anti-crime volunteer was shot dead while chasing a group of suspected snatchers in barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City.

Yolando Filipinas Alcibar, 42, a resident of barangay Labangon, Cebu City, died on the spot with a gunshot wound in the mouth. He was a member of the Barangay Peace-Keeping Action Team (BPAT).

Police said Alcibar was in V. Gullas Street when he heard someone shout “snatcher! snatcher!” past 6 p.m. last Sunday.

Alcibar responded to the alarm and chased three persons.

During the chase, a man on a bicycle with four companions blocked Alcibar. A gunshot rang out.

A blooded Alcibar was later seen slumped on the ground.

Police said the assailant fired shots in the air before they fled.

Police said at least eight persons, including two women, were involved in the attack.

An operation to arrest the assailants is underway, said police.
