MANILA, Philippines—Two communist rebels were killed and seven soldiers were wounded as government troops tried to repulse an attack by the rebels in Compostela Valley Sunday, the military said.
Troops from the Army’s 71st Infantry Battalion found two bodies of New People’s Army rebels after the encounter and recovered two high-powered firearms in Calabcab village in Maco town at around 12 noon, said Army 10th Infantry Division spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Lyndon Paniza.
The soldiers, despite being outnumbered, were able to drive away about 60 rebels.
