MANILA, Philippines – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has started its preparations ahead of All Saints’ Day, its general manager Corazon Jimenez said on Monday.
Jimenez told Radyo Inquirer 990AM in an interview that MMDA personnel have started inspecting and cleaning public cemeteries within the Metropolis. Informal settlers in said areas have also been relocated by local government units.
Jimenez urged the public to take advantage of the long weekend and visit cemeteries ahead of All Saints’ Day to avoid large crowds. “They can start cleaning now to avoid the rush just before November 1 and 2.”
She also requested people who will visit public cemeteries to dispose of their trash properly, recalling how their personnel had to clear “truckloads of garbage left behind in the cemeteries.”
“If they cannot find trash bins, they should at least bring their garbage with them when they leave,” she said.
November 1 (All Saints’ Day) and November 2 (All Souls’ Day), have been declared as special non-working holidays by President Benigno Aquino III.
Aside from cleaning cemeteries, Jimenez said the MMDA was also busy studying the new bus segregation scheme which is scheduled for implementation by December.
Jimenez said MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino has yet to announce when the number coding scheme will be lifted for the holidays.
