MANILA, Philippines – Airport authorities on Saturday arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport a female Thai national for allegedly trying to slip illegal drugs into the country.
An International Police (Interpol) report led customs officials and members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to the arrest of Napoporn Khamsa , 40, and seizure of 6.7 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride, also known as shabu, hidden in the compartment of her luggage.
The seized drugs had an estimated street value of P30 million.
Tess Roque, Bureau of Customs collector for passenger services, said the Thai woman arrived at the Naia’s Terminal 1 at 5:15 p.m. on an Emirates Air flight (EK332) from Dubai.
Roque said that as soon as they got the information from PDEA of a suspected drug mule carrying illegal drugs, airport officials isolated her from the rest of the passengers for examination.
After a thorough search, the shabu was found in her luggage. “The substance later tested positive for shabu,” Roque said.
