Man with fake bills mauled in cockpit

Cockfighting aficionados yesterday  mauled a fisherman who used a fake money bill to bet in a cockfight in  barangay Bojo, Aloguinsan town.

Jerry Paler, 44 ,  of  Maasin Leyte suffered cuts and bruises from the mauling.

He was   caught with P33,600 in  fake money bills—22 pieces of P1,000 bills, 22 pieces of P500 bills, and three  pieces of P200 bills.

Paler was mauled after he was caught using  the counterfeit bills to place a bet in the cockpit.

Policemen who were alerted about the violence went to the cockpit and found angry aficionados with a handcuffed Paler.

Police arrested Paler but  took him to the hospital first to have his bruises treated.

Paler told police that he bought the fake money in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City.

He said he bought a fake P1,000 bill for P250, a P500 bill for P130, and P200 bill for P80.

He didn’t reveal the name of the source of the counterfeit money.

Paler was detained at the Aloguinsan Police Station pending the filing of charges./Correspondent Gabriel C. Bonjoc
