Online gambling
Police are monitoring some areas in Cebu City where illegal online gambling continues to be held.
Chief Insp. George Ylanan, Regional Special Operations Group chief, said the information they got from six Koreans arrested last Friday could be used for future operations.
The six were arrested in a condominium in barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City where several computers were also seized. The suspects are Dong Chul, 28; Jaehak Han, 24; Moonoh Kim, 31; Seungyeop Oh, 34; Kiwon So, 34; and Zu Mao Rum, 30./Correspondent Chito O. ARagon
Stolen checks
A man was caught trying to encash a stolen check worth P20,000 at the Philippine National Bank branch in Lapu-Lapu City.
Geronimo Fernandez, 35, of Palompon, Leyte ran out of the bank when the teller told the guard he was encashing a stolen check.
The guard chased and caught Fernandez, who denied stealing the check from Ofelia Cabasa of Lilo-an town.
Fernandez, who was turned over to the police, said that he found the check on the ground.
Cabasa earlier reported that a pickpocket had stolen the checks from her bag as she headed to the PNB to have them encashed. She said she lost one check for P20,000 and another for P60,000. /Corresponent Norman V. Mendoza
Stabbed
A 25-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed and wounded while trying to help his friend fight off a group of local troublemakers.
Ralph Abrio of barangay T. Padilla,Cebu City, was confined in the hospital after he was stabbed in the back with an icepick.
Abrio was visiting his neighbor when a group of young men started a commotion in the area.
His friend went out of the house to pacify them and instead got drawn into a fistfight.
When Abrio tried to help his friend, he got stabbed by 18-year-old Dexter Amaro.
Tanods caught Amaro and turned him over to the police./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
