Makati questions online survey on promiscuity

MANILA, Philippines –The Makati City government questioned the credibility of an online survey, which ranked the city as the 3rd most promiscuous in Asia.

“It’s difficult to treat seriously the results of a survey conducted online by a service which admits to being a sugar-daddy dating network, which allegedly links wealthy men with women.” Joey Salgado, city spokesman and head of the Information and Community Relations Department (ICRD), said in a statement on Saturday.

“There is no way to verify if the answers given by the respondents are true, considering that the agenda of those who use this online dating service is to attract partners. There is an incentive to exaggerate or even give false answers,” he said.

In all likelihood, Salgado said the respondents would claim to live in Makati, since it is the country’s financial center and premiere city.

“Definitely, a Makati address would bolster the attractiveness factor, since the city is known for upscale living,” he said.

The survey conducted by worldwide dating website, SeekingArrangement.com, showed that Makati City was 3rd in the top 10 most prmicuous cities in Asia with 77 men saying they have had five or more sexual partners in a year.

But Salgado said the credibility of the survey was “further put in serious doubt” by a separate study conducted by the Department of Health.

The DOH study, he said, did not even list Makati as among the six Philippine cities most at risk for human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS).
