JAPANese CULTURAL SHOWS AT SHOPWISE TODAY

ETHOS Corp. will host today the Cebu Nihon Matsuri at the Shopwise Super Center in Basak San Nicolas, Cebu City.

In cooperation with the Cebu City government and with the support of the Japan Foundation, the Cebu Nihon Matsuri is a family oriented activity designed for relaxation and enjoyment while promoting the Japanese culture and language in Metropolitan Cebu.

Admission is free and activities will include Cosplay and J-Pop Rock band competitions, a Shougi (Japanese chess) mini tournament, an Ikebana workshop, a tea ceremony demonstration, an anime sketching competition, an Origami workshop and Japanese film screening. Japanese language and other cultural activities will also be featured.

National Physics Confab slated on Oct. 25-27

THE Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM) and the University of Cebu-Maritime Education and Training Center (UC -METC) will hold the 14th SPVM National Physics conference on Oct. 25 to 27 at the UC-METC campus in Mambaling, Cebu City.

The annual gathering, endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education for the Physics practitioners, researchers, educators and students will include plenary and parallel sessions as well as poster presentations on the recent research findings in the fields of nanophysics, materials science, computational physics, mesoscopic physics and condensed matter physics, among others. It will also include an active dialog for the K-12 national curriculum underpinnings related to Physics programs and pedagogies.

The registration fee is P2,750 for regular participants and P2,500 for students. This would cover the SPVM membership payment, conference kit meals and a city tour. Interested participants may call the SPVM at (063) 2214068 or the UC-METC General Education department at 2628888 local 123.

Pink Chair auction and exhibit at SM Northwing

SM City Cebu and I Can Serve Foundation support the worldwide initiatives for cancer care and prevention through the Pink Chair silent auction and exhibit at the Northwing Atrium.

Furniture designers, owners of furniture collections, furniture companies pledged to donate pink-inspired chairs for auction.

Among them are Kenneth Cobonpue and Vito Selma, Axent Wood Corp., Rachel Luym, Luisa Robinson, Bon Ace Fashion Tools, Clayton Tugonon, Dedon, Debbie Palao, Detalia Aurora Inc., Pete Delantar, Nina Borromeo, Pacific Traders, Allan Murillo, Apy Cane Inc., Obra Cebuana Inc., Profood, Allan Oliver Soco and Alfonso Tian, Mehitabel Inc., Carlo Cordaro, Kirsten Intl. The Pink Chair auction and exhibit, patterned from The Pink Wishbone Project, a charity organized by New York furniture dealers to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, will run from Oct. 22 to Nov. 4 at the Northwing Atrium of SM City Cebu.

Proceeds of will benefit the I Can Serve Foundation.
