Over 100 farmers march along Commonwealth as workers get ready

MANILA, Philippines – Authorities said that around 140 members of Alyansa ng mga Manggagawang Bukid sa Asyenda Luisita (Ambala) and the United Luisita Workers’ Union (ULWU) are marching along Commonwealth Avenue Monday morning, hours before President Benigno Aquino III makes his second State of the Nation Address.

Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr., Philippine National Police spokesman, said the group was making its way towards the direction of Congress at Batasan Pambansa where Aquino will deliver his speech.

The protesters were allowed to use the Quezon Memorial Circle.

In a separate interview with 990AM at Tandang Sora, Commonwealth Avenue, Kilusang Mayo Uno Chairman Elmer “Bong” Labog said they were expecting to mobilize about 20,000 workers to include those who would be coming from the Central and Southern Tagalog regions.
