San Lorenzo turns 25; Pedro’s templete in SRP 60% finished

THE Catholic Church celebrated yesterday the 25th anniversary of the sainthood of San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila.

The celebration continues up to Sunday when Blessed Pedro Calungsod is canonized in the Vatican.

“We should put emphasis on spiritual preparations. This is the best time to receive graces (from the Lord),” said Margie Matheu of the Archdiocese of Cebu secretariat.

A Triduum or three days of Holy Masses are being held in Rome and in Cebu leading up to Sunday.

On Sunday, live telecasts of the canonization rites will be aired in various parishes.

Bishop Emilio Bataclan, the officer in charge of the archdiocese, will preside over a Pontifical Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Activities are also being prepared in Ginatilan town, southwest Cebu, believed to be the birthplace of the Visayan martyr.

On Nov. 30, a national thanksgiving Mass will be held at the South Road Properties to celebrate Calungsod’s sainthood.

Fr. Brian Brigoli of the committee on venue said the templete or small temple at the SRP is 60 percent complete and will be finished on the first week of November.

He said at least 10,000 monobloc chairs will needed for the event.
