14 ECE board topnotchers cited

FOURTEEN topnotchers of the ECE board exams given last April were given recognition by Smart Communications Inc. and the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP).

Each of them received a plaque of recognition, including the ninth placer from University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R).

They were also invited by Smart to a whole-day road show to be able to know the company’s businesses, thrust and directions and the opportunities available in the telco industry.

The activity started with a sit-down meeting with the key leaders of the organization and a tour of the technical and commercial facilities of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and Smart.

IECEP president Ornan Vicente and Smart Human Resources Management and Development Group head Annette Santiago congratulated the newly licensed engineers during the dinner hosted by Smart.

This year’s ECE Board topnotchers is dominated by the Mapua Institute of Technology, with 8 of its students garnering six of the top 10 slots.

Mapua is one of Smart’s school partners under the Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP), an industry-academe partnership launched in 2003 to help raise the level of technology and engineering education in the country, particularly ECE.

Other board topnotchers include students from the Ateneo de Naga University, Central Philippine University, University of the Cordilleras and USJ-R.
