Gov’t mulls over extension of fuel subsidy to farmers, fishers

MANILA, Philippines—The Aquino administration is considering the possibility of expanding its fuel subsidy to farmers and fishermen.

Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala made the announcement during a news briefing in Malacañang.

Alcala said the Department of Agriculture was collating data on the identities of farmers using tractors, and irrigation pumps; fishers using boats; and transporters using the department’s food lanes for them to also avail of themselves of the fuel subsidy.
