One of the arrested members of a robbery gang preying on FX or AUV taxis has turned out to be one of the most wanted men in the Davao region.

Upon his capture by the police, the man identified himself as Luiz “Kingkong” Bondoc, 39, a resident of Payatas, Quezon City, in an apparent bid to confuse authorities.

However, he was still recognized by the Davao police after his photos were flashed on television.

Based on police records, the man’s real name is Rosendo Bondok Chavez. Also known by his aliases of Bolado and Balong-long, he is a resident of Barangay (village) Caliclic in Samal Island, Davao del Norte.

Southern Police District (SPD) director Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona said that last week, he received a call from Chief Inspector Ed Leonardo of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Davao who informed him about Chavez’s real identity.

On Tuesday, a team from the Davao CIDG went to the SPD headquarters where Chavez is detained.

According to Parañaque police chief Supt. Billy Beltran, the Davao police have been looking since 2006 for Chavez who is wanted for two cases of robbery with homicide and a murder case in the cities of Digos and Davao.

“It would seem he fled from the province because of his crimes and settled here in Metro Manila,” Beltran said.

Chavez was picked up by the police on October 6 in the Batasan-Litex area following the arrest of other members of the gang at a Parañaque checkpoint.

The group faces at least 50 robber-holdup complaints. Some of its members have also been implicated in the killing of Alister Quintos, a security aide of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, Beltran said.
