Lapu builds home for street kids
Construction of the the building that will serve as Lapu-Lapu City’s street children care center has begun.
The P6 million building located adjacent to the DSWD Center in barangay Gun-ob will have dorms that can serve as temporary shelter for street children.
The facility will be managed by the Home Care Division of the Lapu-Lapu City government.
“In the Home Care Division they have programs on child care – children will be sent to school and taught skills,” said Mayor Paz Radaza.
Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas said the Children and Womens Protection Desk (CWPD) of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office are keeping track of the children in conflict with law. Their parents are also being monitored
According to Lawas, the parents of these children will be charged with appropriate cases for allowing their children to loiter in the streets, begging and sniffing solvent and other volatile substances./Correspondent Norman V. Mendoza
Mandaue ups drive vs rabies
The Veterinary Office of Mandaue City resumed its massive campaign against stray dogs and illegal pigpens and slaughterhouses after it acquired two brand new vehicles and five motorcycles.
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes turned over the P1.8 million worth of vehicles and motorcycles to the Veterinary Office last week.
City Veterinarian Ma. Daisy Penetrante said the one vehicle will be assigned to the dog pound while another vehicle will be used by the task force on meat. Motorcycles will be assigned to meat inspectors.
Penetrante said they are conducting free dog and cat vaccination and round up of stray animals to make the city rabies free by 2020.
The city vaccinators have already covered all 27 barangays and are presently concentrating on subdivision and cover for the second round in all barangays by next month.
According to Penetrante the city government has lately scored a victory against illegal pigpens and slaughtering with the demolition of one of the biggest illegal pigpens located at the old market in barangay Mantuyong.
