TV News interpreter’s summit set for Nov. 8-10
THE first TV News Interpreter’s Summit will be held at the Montebello Villa Hotel on Nov. 8-10.
In line with the Fully Abled Nation (FAN) project, the summit entitled the Enhancing Skills, Access and Opportunities (ESAO) of Filipino sign language in regional TV news broadcast, voter registration and education in Baguio City, Cebu City, Davao City and Iloilo City seeks to increase the participation of persons with disabilities in the 2013 midterm elections.
The summit aims to improve the quality of sign language interpreting and publish a reference manual on TV news signing. It will also help in the lobbying for the professionalism of television news interpreting.
The summit will begin with a series of lectures that focus on the role of interpreters in inclusive development.
Dr. Steven Rood, country representative of The Asia Foundation, will give an overview of the FAN project. VSO Bahaginan executive director Malou Pantua-Juanito, with program officer Jay Neil Ancheta, will give an overview of ESAO and share about active citizenship.
Charie Villa, executive head of ABS-CBN Regional network group, will discuss the impact of mainstreaming sign language interpreting in TV News.
Article continues after this advertisementThe National Commission for Disability Affairs, Commission on Elections executive director Carmen Zubiaga with Comelec Commissioner Rene Sarmiento will lecture about enabling the environment for a deaf-inclusive 2013 midterm election.
