Typhoon Nina maintains slow course

MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Nina maintained its slow course over the Philippine Sea Monday afternoon, the state weather bureau said.

The cyclone was located 870 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 160 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Nina will exit by Thursday morning as it moves northwest at 5 kph.

Mindanao will have light to moderate rainshowers or thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the north northwest will prevail over Luzon with moderate to rough seas. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate.

Fishing boats and other small sea craft were advised not to venture out into the northern and western seaboard of northern and eastern Luzon.
