SWU leads semis cast in Shakey’s V-League

The stage is set for the semifinal round in the 10th Shakey’s Girl’s V-League led by the belles of Southwestern University, which finished the elimination round on top as they added two more wins to their name including one over the defending champions Pajo National High School yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

SWU proved to be unstoppable as it first downed Abellana National School, 25-12, 25-15. The Cobras ended the day with a convincing 25-20, 25-19 win over the Pajo Vipers, which put them at the top of the heap in pool A with a perfect 4-0 (win-loss) record.

Pajo finished at second place in the same group as it added two wins to its record yesterday. The Vipers beat the University of Cebu, 25-15, 25-10, and the Abellana National School, 25-6, 25-2.

In pool B, the visiting Silliman University also claimed a clean 4-0 record after the elimination round as it downed the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, 25-17, 25-14. It also got past the St. Theresa’s College in a thrilling three-setter, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20.

The second seed in group B was nabbed by STC after winning its last two assignments including a heart-stopping three-set win over the University of San Carlos.

STC lost the first set, 24-26 but regained their bearings by sweeping the next two, 25-23, 25-16. Earlier in the day, STC beat Ateneo de Cebu, 25-19, 25-14.

The semifinals will start at 10 a.m. with SWU taking on STC while Silliman U battles Pajo at 11 am. The championship game has been set later in the day at 3 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Tournament of Champions in Manila in January.
