USC to hold qualifying chess tournament today

THE UNIVERSITY of San Carlos (USC) will hold a qualifying chess tournament today at the USC-North Campus.

The competition aims to select the best young wood pushers to represent Cebu City in the prestigious Batang Pinoy Games Visayas Leg in Tacloban on Nov. 21 to 24.

The qualifiers will offer competition for 14-under, 20-under players.

FIDE arbiter Felix Poloyapoy, who is also the head coach of the USC chess team, spearheads this tournament together with National Master Arnold Cadiz.

FEATURED STORIES

The competition will use a seven-round Swiss system format with 25 minutes to play.

Registration for the 14-under is pegged at P75 and P100 for the 20-under.
