Cooks compete in ‘Lutong Garbo sa Negros Oriental’

THE 7th “Lutong Garbo sa Sidlakang Negros” will present the nine chefs vying for the annual cooking challenge today, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Sidlakang Negros Village in Dumaguete City.

All nine cooks are set for the battle of local culinary food and create originality using native ingredients abundant in their respective area.

The competition banners the theme, “Discovering, developing and promoting Oriental Negros culinary heritage.”

Contestants will pick from the lists the recipes they wanted to cook, namely, ginisang rootcrops with chicken of Bayawan City, vegetables with chicken of Valencia town, embutidong dabong of San Jose, laing con carne of Sibulan, hardinura de pruta of Amlan, humba with gabi from Dumaguete City, takway na may suso from Sta. Catalina, chicken pork with lemon grass from Mabinay and linabog de Zamboanguita from Zamboanguita.

Sylvia Uy, committee chair of Lutong Garbo, said entries will be judged by local culinary experts Pepita Villacora, Katherine Fontelo and Wilfreda Villalon.

“We are inviting aspiring cooks and food lovers to witness these local master chefs at work,” said Uy.

The use of monosodium glutamate, canned goods, imported products, and artificial seasonings will be disallowed.
