Farm family agri-fair set today in Neg Or

THE Negros Oriental Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) will hold activities in line with its annual NegOrganic farm family agri-fair on Oct. 10 and 11 at the Provincial Nursery Compound in Dumaguete City.

This year’s agri-fair theme is “Organic Agriculture: Gearing Towards Sustainable Growth in Negros Oriental.”

Gov. Roel Degamo will open the affair.

The two-day event will gather all registered rural-based organizations composed of farmers, fishermen, rural improvement club (RIC) and 4-H club members in the province for a series of demonstrations, cook-offs and other contests.

Among the contests are quiz bee, poster-making, extemporaneous speaking, retro minus-one sing and look-alike, Kuracha courtship dance, vocal duet and dancesport.

PAO said the main highlight of the first day, Oct. 10, is the Miss 4-H Beauty Pageant.

On the second day, simultaneous sectoral activities and contests will be held, such as 4-H method demonstration through a cassava-based cooking contest; handicraft demo featuring accessories; formulation of organic fertilizer; RIC skill demo on fruit peeling, innovative products and corn husk dendrobium.

Other activities are fish catching (hook and line), making calderetang tilapia, crab-catching, and cooking skill demonstration on chevon (goat meat).

A “Pinaka” contest will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. of Oct. 10 for vegetables and fruits brought by the farmers. These produce will be put on display in booths for the exhibit of organically-grown farm products from the towns and cities in the province.

The fruits and vegetables will be sold after the contest. The culmination and awarding program will be on Oct. 11, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
