MANILA, Philippines—After being scolded for his drinking binges with friends, a teenaged boy ended up killing himself inside the family home on Thursday in Quezon City.

The mother of Jeffrey Casilag, 17, discovered his body hanging from a wooden beam inside their house on Anakbayan Street, Barangay (village) Paltok early Thursday morning.

The boy used an electric cable in committing suicide, said case investigator Senior Police Officer 1 Jaime Jimena.

Jimena learned that the night before, Casilag’s mother, Perla, had scolded her son for drinking too much with his buddies.

Police added that the victim had a girlfriend living with him, who happened to be back at her parents’ home when the alleged suicide happened.

Perla recalled that at around 7 a.m. Thursday, she was about to get her cellphone from her room when she stumbled upon her son’s body.

The distraught mother then asked her male relatives to bring down the body and ask help from barangay officials.
