MANILA, Philippines—A suspected thief was killed while his two alleged cohorts were arrested after they were allegedly caught red-handed robbing jeepney passengers in Marikina City early Wednesday, the city police chief said.
Senior Superintendent Gabriel Lopez identified the killed suspect as Jimmy Arizala, 25; and the two arrested as Kevin Gelera, 18; and Ronilee Casabuena, 35, all of Antipolo City.
He said the suspects were all identified by their victims and by Arnold Cristobal, driver of the jeepney that was robbed along E. Santos Street, corner G. Molina in Barangay (village) Concepcion 1 in Marikina City around 6 a.m.
Police authorities were patrolling along the area when they chanced upon the incident.
Police responded but were fired upon by the suspects, triggering a shootout that led to the instantaneous death of Arizala and the arrest of the two others, said Lopez.
