MANILA, Philippines—Three teachers drowned while two remained missing after their vehicle was swept away by strong current in Lobo town, Batangas Wednesday night, the Office of Civil Defense said.

A certain Gertrudes Indencio survived the incident, Vicente Tomazar, director of OCD Calabarzon, said Thursday.

He identified the fatalities as Emiliana Lontoc, Menchie Gayeta and Nelia Guico, while the missing teachers were Jona Driz and Efren Lontoc.

The owner-type jeep, carrying the six teachers, was crossing the Jaybanga river when it was carried away by rampaging waters, Tomazar said.
