Cops arrest 2 men for masiao

TWO men were arrested in separate anti-gambling raids yesterday in Lapu-Lapu City.

Police brought in Danilo Marinduque and Rogelio Potot to the police precinct  after they raided their houses in barangay Pusok and barangay Pajo respectively.

Supt. Romano Cardiño, who led the anti-gambling Task Force Maverick in the operation, said Marinduque and Potot were members of a group led by a boxing promoter, who ran the illegal gambling game of masiao in Central Visayas.

In his report submitted to Camp Crame, Cardiño said the boxing promoter was the financier of the group while Marinduque and Potot were his coordinators.

Cardiño, who is also the deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Central Visayas, said the boxing promoter and the two arrested men were in the police’s watch list of people engaged in illegal gambling.

Cardiño, however, said that being in the watch list would only mean that the person would be closely monitored especially if his name would crop up during operations.

Police caught Marinduque and Potot tallying numbers for masiao during the raid.

They confiscated a calculator, 21 pieces of ball pen, a motorcycle, P2,475 cash believed to be proceeds of the illegal numbers game, and assorted tally sheets with illegal numbers game combinations.

Marinduque and Potot refused to identify their financier, said police./Correspondent Chito O. Aragon
