‘Nina’ now a typhoon, rains expected in parts of PH–Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The cyclone Nina (Prapiroon) intensified into a typhoon Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.

Although no storm signals were raised, Bicol, the Visayas and Davao regions will have occasional light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with brief rainshowers or thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.

Nina was last seen 1,050 kilometers east of Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

It is forecast to move west at 15 kph.

Meanwhile, moderate to strong winds blowing from the north to northwest will prevail over Luzon and coming from the northwest to west over Eastern Visayas and Eastern Mindanao.

The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northwest to west with slight to moderate seas, Pagasa said.
