Regional Director Temie Lambino of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Region 7 said the plan of Team Rama to question the legality of Councilor Augustus Pe Jr.’s candidacy would enrich jurisprudence.
Pe, who is on his third term as councilor in Cebu City’s north district, filed his Certificate of Candidacy, this time for councilor in the south district.
Can he run again in a new district and sidestep term limits?
“I haven’t read any decision yet on the Supreme Court on that matter. That is why it is good to have that case filed so that once and for all, if it would be elevated until the SC, we can have jurisprudence on the matter,” Lambino said.
Team Rama members siad they plans to ask the Comelec to disqualify Pe because he is already on his last term.
Lambino said any party opposing Pe’s candidacy has only five days to file the disqualification petition from the last day of filing of COCs.
Lambino said the petition may be filed in the Comelec office which has jurisdiction over the candidate or to the clerk of the commission. Doris C. Bongcac and Jhunnex Napallacan
