Teenager killed on way home in Quezon City

/ 12:42 AM October 09, 2012

A teenager was shot dead as he was walking home with his girlfriend in Quezon City before dawn on Monday.

Maynard Dayog, 18, a resident of Barangay (village) Commonwealth, died on the way to Fairview General Hospital due to two gunshot wounds. Inspector Elmer Monsalve, homicide section chief of the Quezon City Police District, said the victim was initially attacked by three young men.

Dayog’s girlfriend, Ladylyn Concordia, said that she and Dayog were walking home on Payatas Road at 1:40 a.m. Monday when the three men walked up to them and challenged him to a fight. Concordia said she told her boyfriend to run for it but the three still chased him.

Concordia added that she saw six barangay watchmen come out of the Commonwealth Barangay Hall Annex, who tried to stop her boyfriend. She then heard two gunshots ring out and saw Dayog fall to the ground. The police said they were still trying to determine who shot the victim.—Julie M. Aurelio
