Davide wants review of Suroy, Balili projects

It will be a different Garcia facing  Liberal Party (LP)-Cebu gubernatorial candidate Hilario “Junjun” Davide III in next year’s elections.

This  early, Davide said he will review the programs started  by Rep. Pablo John Garcia’s elder sister, outgoing Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, if he is elected to the Capitol’s top post.

In a press conference last Friday at the ancestral home of businessman Efrain Pelaez, Davide said hewould like to review among other things the Suroy-Suroy sa Sugbo tourism program.

He described the Suroy-suroy sa Sugbo, where busloads of domestic and foreign visitors take three-day package tours to the countryside, was “very costly” and said he wanted it discontinued.

But after a talk with running mate  Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, Davide said they agreed to continue the program provided it’s done on a “voluntary basis” by the the towns.

He said Magpale told him that the towns have potential for tourism growth.

Davide also said he wanted to review the creation of Sugbo News magazine and Sugbo TV along with the Capitol’s acquisition of the Balili property in barangay Tina-an, Naga City.

He said he would form a “committee that will review the transactions” made adding that property  should be put to good use.

For his priorities, Davide said he would focus on health and agriculture services.

The lawyer  said he wanted to revive the Farmer-Scientist Training Progam (FSTP) by tapping the expertise of his uncle, 2012 Magsaysay Awardee Dr. Romulo Davide.

Now that the filing of  certificates of candidacy (COC) is over, Davide said he and Magpale will focus on the campaign and getting themselves known in the province.

He  confirmed that  President Benigno Aquino III would show up during the campaign period to boost their candidacy.
