BUSINESSMAN Glenn Anthony Soco is determined to run even without the support of a national party.
“I am not expecting funds from the national party. I can support my own campaign,” he said in a text message to Cebu Daily News.
A document was faxed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office last Friday containing the withdrawal of the Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP)’s nomination of Soco as vice governor candidate for Cebu.
The Comelec Cebu province office held off acting on it until it could verify the authenticity of the document.
Soco said his radio program aired over dyHP entitled “Dream Ko, Kalambuan Mo” would be a boost for his campaign.
“Yes because that program was created to help give employment to the people of whom we helped many,” he said.
Asked if he was threatened by the political machinery of his opponents for vice governor, Soco said “no”.
“I have the people with me. I (received 517,000 votes) during the last elections,” he said.
Comelec Provincial Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said Soco is still running under the PMP since the faxed copy of PMP’s withdrawal is “deemed not filed” without the original copy of the Certificate of Nomination (CONA) withdrawal.
Soco turned to the PMP when the One Cebu party of the Garcias passed him over as vice gubernatorial bet in favor of former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV.
The fax contained the signature of lawyer Simeon Garcia, who also signed Soco’s CONA submitted to the poll office last Wednesday.
